Hollywood Church Launches New Website
The Hollywood Seventh-day Adventist church recently launched a new website as part of their effort to share Christ with their extremely media competitive community and world. As you can imagine, people in Hollywood have seen and heard it all, but undoubtedly many have not yet heard the wonderful story of God's love. Ryan Bell, senior pastor of the Hollywood Church, explains what they hope the site will accomplish:
"Our desire is to have a website that helps our web visitors understand what makes our congregation unique. In particular, we want people, in one glance, to see that our church is both passionate about worship through the arts, and engaged in the city; both passionately pursuing God and seeking peace and justice in our community and around the world. These are pieces of a whole, for us.
As we crafted the structure and language of the site we viewed it as theological process. Our website challenge was, and is, to creatively explain not only what we are doing, but why we are doing it, from a theological perspective--all in a way that the non-church going person understands. Our other goal is interactivity. We want the site to function like a blog. In fact, it is basically a fancy blog. A core part of the interactivity of the site is the open-source content generation that is possible. With third-party sites like Flickr and YouTube, members of our congregation can contribute content without being administrators."
